Common Interest Group (CIG): Common Interest Group (CIG) is a team of individuals, subject matter specialist and resource partners, who work together on issues of common interest and objectives for agreed benefit sharing. Some of the issues on which they work are sustainable development and livelihood generation.
Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR): Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR): An autonomous body, constituted in 1942 by a resolution of the then Central Legislative Assembly. It’s a premier national R&D organization set up with the objective to generate new knowledge and new products, processes and technologies in diverse areas ranging from chemicals and drugs to materials and electronics; from safe drinking water and food technology to aerospace; and fro environment protection and toxicology to petroleum processing. In the process, CSIR has grown to span a very wide S&T base. It now has over 40 laboratories spread all over India.

Community Based Organization (CBO): These are organisations based in and working in one or more local communities (neighbourhoods or districts). They are normally private, charitable (non-profit) organisations, which are run by and for the local community, created in response to some local need or situation - often related to the local environment.They usually support a variety of specific local improvement actions (for instance, environmental upgrading, youth education, employment promotion, etc.) which are generally undertaken by or with the local people. CBOs are usually important stakeholders and active participants in participatory decision-making process.
Grassroots Innovation Argumentation Networks (GIANs): They are regional incubation arms of National Innovation Foundation, registered as a society under Societies Registration Act 1860 and other act as applicable from time to time. As of now there are three GIANs located at Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Guwahati with GIAN - cells at Tumkur and Madurai.

Information Education Communication (IEC): Information, Education and Communication material are document /strategy developed for creating awareness, mobilizing people and making development, participatory through advocacy and by transferring knowledge, skills and techniques to the people. It is also critical for bringing about transparency in implementation of the programme at the field level and for promoting the concept of accountability and social audit.
Investment Opportunity Document (IOD): A base documents that analyses the business opportunities, market potentials and risks of investing in new technologies.
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Intellectual Property Rights are statutory rights once granted, allows the creator(s) or owner(s) of the intellectual property to exclude others from exploiting the same commercially for a given period of time. It allows the creator(s)/owner(s) to have the benefits from their work when these are exploited commercially. IPR are granted to an inventor or creator, designer in lieu of the disclosure of his/her knowledge.
Micro Venture and Innovation Fund (MVIF): An incubation fund set up with financial assistance from SIDBI for incubating innovations and Traditional Knowledge practices from NIFs database.

Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA): An agreement between parties to protect the intellectual property of the innovator barring use without consent.
Non Government Organization (NGO): Non-Disclosure Agreement is an obligation between the parties to protect and keep confidential information shared between the parties in confidentiality. The “confidential information” is always defined in a NDA on case-to-case basis.
Prior Informed Consent (PIC): Prior Informed Consent is an instrument for trust based relation wherein consent is being sought from the innovator and/or inventor and/or knowledge holder to develop, protect, explore the commercialized innovation. PIC document may be of different types, each defining the scope of rights imparted to exploit and benefit share between stakeholders of the innovation.
Students’ Chapter for Augmenting Innovation (SCAI): Students’ Club for Augmenting Innovations (SCAI) at grassroots is a students’ forum facilitated through National Innovation Foundation to involve students from different educational institutes to scout, valorize and diffuse innovations and traditional knowledge practices on commercial/non-commercial basis. The purpose is to generate a new model of knowledge management for sustainable development based on creativity and innovations at grassroots.

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI): Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) set up under a separate Act of Parliament, is the principal financial institution for promotion, financing and development of industries in the small scale sector. SIDBI became operational in April 1990; it operates a number of schemes tailor made to meet the requirements of the small scale sector.
