Energy conservation and generation technology
An attachment to exhaust manifold of stationary engine for reducing carbon particulates from the flue gas and damping the sound as well as temperature. It comprises a cylindrical housing in which exhaust gas is allowed to expand and strike over fins embedded over internal surface of cylinder and perforated tubular fins. This results dissociation of CO and CO2 present in the exhaust gas into carbon particulates, which can be removed periodically through opening (covered by lid) provided for this purpose. The carbon can be used as raw material for making boot polish and similar applications. The exhaust gases coming out from this kit has quite low temperature and results very low noise thus also helps in protecting from the problem of global warming and noise pollution. The Patent application no. is (1520/KOL/2008). BIT Mesra has confirmed drastic reduction in pollution using the device.
Exhaust manifold of the engine is coupled to inlet of the said attachment, whereas gas exit from the unit is embedded to top of the unit. Exhaust gas enters in the unit, moves towards its bottom where it is diverted in all the directions resulting expansion and turbulence. Exhaust gas strikes to the array of protruded fins and perforated tubes several times, which results dissociation of CO and CO2 into C and O2, leading increased percentage of O2 in exhaust gas. Carbon particulates settle down in the bottom and at the wall of tubes, which can be removed out by slight hammering through opening provided for this purpose.
The attachment consists of a:-
- Cylinder having concentric perforated screens
- Seven number of perforated tubes
- Mesh lining
- Sixteen number of fins
- Protruded on the internal surface of cylinder, pipe line for inlet and exit of exhaust gasses
- For opening to remove carbon particulates, etc.

Simple mechanical arrangement, working very effectively for reducing harmful gases in exhaust gas and protecting from global warming.
No chemical is being used for absorbing the carbon emissions.
It is one sort of filter attached to the exhaust manifolds; no alternative is available in market. However, systems for serving the purpose using catalyst or scrubbing (water mainly) are available in art.
