Agro based food processing machinery

Grading of raisins define a process to scale them on the basis of their size, mainly used for raisin preparation. Traditionally, the grapes are washed and twigs and debris are removed form each grape. This consumes a lot of time and energy. This single machine saves time by removing the twigs and debris from the raisins, separates the debris and the raisins and grades them by size simultaneously. The quality of the raisins graded is inspected visually. A cost efficient innovation to grade/sort the raisins (dried grapes) according to size thereby reducing time consumed than manual grading. It is also used for cleaning the raisin to remove dust, twigs and other foreign. It is available in two models of 2 and 4 tonnes capacity.

  • Application domains: It can be used for any variety of grapes yielding good quality product to meet export quality criteria
  • Alternative application: Cleaning and grading of food grains
  • Market potential in the third world

The grapes are dipped in a solution of Potassium Carbonate and Dip Oil with base as water. This is done so as to dehydrate the grapes and the sucrose is left in them. Then they are dried for 15 – 20 days under the shed in dry region and chemicals are sprayed on it, for proper drying and save it from the pests. The dried grapes, as we call them raisins are fed into the machine though a feeder, which are passed through a container with a rubber brush.

A 3 HP motor is used to drive the mechanism. The brush hammers the raisins to get the small twigs off the raisins. These raisins are then passed through the blower to remove the dust and debris off them. The blower gets the power from a 2 HP motor. The raisins are now clean and then they are grated with a vibrator screen (driven by another 2 HP motor) connected to three sieves. These are connected through a pulley-belt drive.

  • This machine saves time by blowing away the dust, removing the twigs and grading the raisins by size
  • This simplifies the entire process for the farmer and after the raisins are graded, the farmer visually inspects the quality
  • In this machine , the operator is safe from exposure to the dust from the blower
  • This machine helps in removing the tediousness involved in cleaning every single raisin and grading it accordingly
